Beware of Unexpected e-Transfer Notifications: Protect Yourself from Scams

Receiving an unexpected e-transfer notification can be confusing but also enticing. Fraudsters know curiosity and the thought of "free" or unexpected money are two ways to trick people into doing something they regret.

Here's what you should do if you receive an unexpected e-transfer notification:

  1. Confirm with the Sender: If you receive an unexpected e-transfer, confirm with the sender via text, phone, or in person. This ensures the transfer is legitimate and not a scam.
  2. Beware of Unknown Senders: If the email or text comes from someone you don't know or you suspect it to be fraudulent, don't respond or click any links. It's better to be safe and avoid potential scams!
  3. Report Suspicious Messages: Forward suspicious emails to phishing@interac.ca. Reporting these messages helps prevent others from falling victim to the same scams.

Stay safe, and always verify unexpected messages before clicking.
