Yes, it is secure!

Interac® Debit contactless payments uses secure chip processing to protect against skimming, counterfeiting and electronic pick-pocketing. There is also the cumulative spend limit - when this amount is reached, you are prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN to complete the transaction. This validates you as the legitimate cardholder. 
Interac® Debit contactless payments with your card or mobile device are faster and more convenient than traditional Chip and PIN transactions for everyday purchases. They’re also just as secure, thanks in part to transaction limits:
  • A single card-based contactless transaction cannot exceed $250, with a cumulative spend limit of $400.
When the cumulative spend limit is reached, you are prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN to complete the transaction. This validates you as the legitimate cardholder and resets the limits.

Transaction limit for Interac® Debit contactless payments have been set by Interac, therefore we do not have the ability to change or increase the limits.
The transaction limits for Interac Debit contactless payment are in place for your protection. A single card-based contactless transaction cannot exceed $100, with a cumulative spend limit of $200. When the cumulative spend limit is reached, you are prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN to complete the transaction.
